BlackBerry Atlas 8980 Pictures – Headed To China Mobile

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Luis Merlos on 31-07-2010

blackberry_8980 The guys over at BBnews.Pl spotted pictures on a Chinese website berrycn.com of a new BB being tested for the Asian market. The BB has the code name Atlas with a model number 8980. We have heard rumors of the curve line getting some new devices, but so far it would seem there not meant to be for North America or Europe.  It would seems that RIM is using the curve line as their flagship device in the Asian Markets.  This new device has the same keyboard the 8900 had with the upgrade from a trackball to a trackpad.  If the RAM is kept at 256 this device may not see some BB 6 goodness but it still in the air since RIM has not said which devices will be getting the OS upgrade.

BBleaks has posted the following specks:

  • Curve with faster EDGE for data – evolved EDGE
  • Radio Quad Band GSM/GPRS/EDGE with DLDC and LatRed support for Evolved EDGE
  • Downlink data speed 473kbps (with 8 timeslots)
  • Display 480×360 LCD
  • Camera 3.2 MP Auto Focus, Flash
  • Micro USB high speed, Bluetooth 2.1
  • Optical Navigation Module
  • Functional Hard Keys Volume
  • User Configurable Key
  • Speaker Phone
  • Media Keys/Mute
  • Lock – A*
  • Software BB 5.0
  • Battery M-S1 1500mAhr
  • Memory 256 MB Flash
  • 256 MB SDR RAM
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
  • UMA supported
  • GPS Supported with A-GPS ready

BlackBerry Curve 3G shows up Telus website… Accidentally?

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by bbsync on 31-07-2010

Whoops! Looks like Telus has accidentally listed the upcoming BlackBerry Curve 3G on their website. I went on to telusmobility.com this morning to check out their new smartphone plan (with 5GB bonus data), and look what I came across. Telus has listed the unreleased BlackBerry Curve 3G as the current CDMA Curve 8530. It says the “Curve 3G” is available in silver, pink, or red at a price of $49.99 with three year contract. However we’ve heard the upcoming Curve 3G will be available in titanium and pink, not red.

We know that Telus is getting ready to launch the new BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 within the next few weeks, but it seems their website might be getting ready to launch it before them. Keep an eye out for the official Canadian launch within the next few weeks.

Dropbox for BlackBerry goes into limited beta

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Bla1ze on 31-07-2010

Dropbox

Well, we've seen it arrive on practically every other platform before BlackBerry but, either way it is here now. Dropbox, the online storage solution which offers users 2GB of space for free has just gone live with their beta application for BlackBerry. You'll have to act fast though, the forums posting says 500 users and no one knows how many have already taken that count down. Check it out and report back in the comments. My report, it's fast and works great. As a Dropbox user, certainly glad to see it arrive. PS: You'll need to login to your dropbox account.

Review: MoonCal for BlackBerry

Review: MoonCal for BlackBerry
Rating: 10 out of 10 stars
Cost: $2.99 @ the Store

My children have always been fascinated with the moons. They love watching how it moves from a new moon through all the phases until they reach their favorite moon of all: A Full Moon.

With this in mind, I decided to search for the perfect app for my BlackBerry that will help them remember the phases of the moon and exactly when they will be able to see their favorite moon.

I ran across MoonCal by Tworoads Software. MoonCal is really neat. You can see not only the phases of the moon, what each phase is called and their appearance date, but it will also show you equinoxes and solstices and even the Chinese New Year.

If you are a Moon person as well, check out this neat little app in the store for a very low $2.99. You can even test it out with their free trial!

J.D. Power Gives T-Mobile USA Highest Customer Service Award

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Ronen Halevy on 30-07-2010

jd-power-awardT-Mobile once again took the award for the highest wireless customer service from J.D. Power and Associates. They just received the highest ranking in their 2010 Wireless Customer Care Performance Study –Volume 2. J.D. Power regularly gives these awards and T-Mobile tends to win them most of the time. They just received the retail customer service award back in March.

I have to say that in my personal experience T-Mobile does have amazing customer service. When I have to call them for friends they are way more knowledgeable than the AT&T reps I have to deal with.

What do you think of T-Mobile’s customer service?

How Do You Use Your BlackBerry: What browser do you primarily use on your device?

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Adam Zeis on 30-07-2010

 BlackBerry Browser Options

With BlackBerry 6 hopefully not too far away, the shiny new WebKit browser will be upon us. We'll finally have a better browsing experience and be able to hold our heads high. As it is now, the only real options are the default BlackBerry browser (which I don't mind but some really despise), Opera Mini and BOLT. Each has its own pros and cons and caters to different users. Before we get the good stuff in BlackBerry 6, we want to know which browser you primarily use. Are you a native browser kind of guy/gal? Or is a 3rd party browser more your style. Vote in the poll and then leave a comment letting us know why you use what you use.
