How Do You Use Your BlackBerry Series: Alert Settings and Notifications for Your Main Profile

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Adam Zeis on 31-03-2010

Alerts and Notifications

Last week we checked out how everyone uses the Messages app, and it the results were pretty even. For the most part, it seems like the majority (6,196) use the Messages app for all emails and SMS, while others (5,328) use separate folders. The rest of the bunch (3,342) has a mix of both the Messages app and separate folders.

This week we move on to another burning question - how do you use alerts and notifications on your device? When I first started with BlackBerry, I had alerts setup for anything and everything. Now I've moved into only a select few alerts for important things like SMS, BBM and phone calls. I actually don't even use the LED for emails at this point since I check my device so often. I know that Bla1ze doesn't even use audible alerts on his device. So our question is this - how do you use alert settings and notifications? We've tried to include the best options in our poll (some specific answers may be missing) so choose what is closest to what you do. There are sooooo many options for profiles (bedside mode, in/out of holser etc) - but most people have one main setup they use daily. So pick the answer that best fits your main use - don't take into account times when you are in meetings etc. and change your device to vibrate/silent. Drop a comment and let us know your exact setup and why it works for you.

BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS 5.0.0.442 from TELUS

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Scott on 31-03-2010

Just received an email from TELUS letting me know that they’ve just released an OS update for the BlackBerry Bold 9700. It seems that TELUS decided to launch OS 5.0.0.442, instead of 5.0.0.545 like Bell. The new OS is said to bring a few overall enhancements to the device, and its highly recommended you upgrade to it. You can upgrade your OS by plugging your Bold into BlackBerry Desktop Manager, or by download the OS from the link below.

White BlackBerry Bold 9700 Heading to Rogers?

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Scott on 31-03-2010

I’ve always wanted a white BlackBerry Bold, however I said I  would never go back to a device with a trackball (like the Bold 9000). According to a tipster at MobileSyrup, Rogers has SKU’s preloaded in their inventory for what appears to be a White colored BlackBerry Bold 9700. Sadly there is no word of pricing, or even launch dates, but with any luck at all we will see this hot white BlackBerry hit Rogers shortly…

OS 5.0.0.607 for the 9550

Off what seems to have been our biggest week ever for leaks, we have a fresh OS for the BlackBerry Storm2 9550. OS 5.0.0.607 is ready and waiting, so fire up App Loader and give it a go. No word of what has changed as of yet, so be sure to drop a comment and let us know what you find out. This is not an official OS, so use caution when installing.

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Follow the links below for more information and instructions. *

BlackBerry Bold 9700 in White Coming to Rogers?

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Adam Zeis on 31-03-2010

Bold 9700 White

As was the case with the Bold 9000, it looks like our good friend the Bold 9700 will be made available in white as well. MobileSyrup has landed some Rogers intel that shows a white Bold 9700 may be on the way. The system is now showing the device listed as RIM 9700B/WR which hopefully means RIM 9700 Black/White Rogers. Still just some early specualting, but a Bold 9700 in white would look pretty spiffy. We'll try to do some more digging and see what we can find out. Would you buy a white Bold 9700? Leave a comment and let us know.

BlackBerry Pearl 9105 to Have T9 Style Keyboard?

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Kevin Michaluk on 31-03-2010

Pearl 9105

Disclaimer: Image is a **mockup** of how the 9105 might look.

There have been so many rumblings lately on the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 front that I wish it would just get announced already. WES is just a month away, so maybe they'll do it up then. We've seen loads of photos, mixed bits of info and even a possible release date. Now BBnews.pl has some new info and it appears as if the BlackBerry Pearl 9105 may be part of the series and sporting a classic T9-style keyboard. We know the 9100 will carry the Pearl SureType keyboard, and we've seen what could be a full QWERTY keypad coming to a new Pearl as well (though possibly that will be a new Pearl flip), but this 12-button layout looks to be a natural fit on the 91xx candy bar form factor. Suffice to say that with a device like this RIM is making it clear that they're really pumping out the designs and form factor options in trying to make sure there is a BlackBerry device that appeals to everyone as more of the mainstream consumer feature phone market makes the upgrade into smartphones. Drop a comment and let us know what you think!
