BlackBerry Planet Book Gets Lackluster Review

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Ronen Halevy on 01-12-2009

blackberry-planetWe mentioned Alastair Sweeny’s book all about RIM’s history before and I was really hoping it would be a hit. The book is titled “BlackBerry Planet: The Story of Research in Motion and the Little Device that Took the World by Storm” and the first chapter that was released to the public was promising. He even scored an interview with Forbes to discuss the book.

Still from the only editorial review I have found so far (TheRecord.com) claims the book “fizzles after good start.” It begins with some great background on RIM before the BlackBerry was launched but after that it looks like Sweeny never got some quality time with Mike Lazaridis or Jim Balsillie or whatever else he needed to give the book more meat beyond the background.

I am going to withhold judgment until I read the book for myself (which I surprisingly found on Google Books for free). The book is available right now on Amazon for $17.79 and will hopefully be getting my copy soon. Until then let me know what you thought of the book if you read it.

In case you want the short version you can check out our own informal history of RIM at these links:
