I was driving a couple friends insane last week trying to get the awesome Amazon BlackBerry app on my BlackBerry Bold 9700. Amazon was blocking downloads from any OS 5.0 device for some reason and it was really hard to get a OTA download link because they create one time use download links.
Remzi let me know that Amazon has now opened up the download to OS 5.0 devices along with updating the application to version 1.0.25 from version 1.0.14 that I got before. Not sure what else is new but it downloads fine from my 9700.
Check it out at www.amazon.com/bb
Features:
- Currently available for BlackBerry smartphones with a trackball or touch screen.
- Buy millions of products wherever you go.
- Access your existing Amazon account, cart, wish lists, payment and shipping settings, order history, 1-Click, and Prime benefits.
- Snap a photo from your BlackBerry and we’ll search for a similar product available from Amazon.com.
- All orders placed are processed by Amazon’s secure servers.

The BlackBerry Storm 2 has arrived to try and save the BlackBerry touch screen reputation after a pretty disastrous Storm 1 entrance last year. I used a Storm 1 and can safely say that while I'm a huge fan of Research In Motion 's (RIM) BlackBerry products (I've been a user since 2000), I was excited to see how RIM would jump into the touch screen Smartphone ring, and then immediately disappointed at the product I was holding in my hands.
It was laggy, buggy, kludgy, and the whole having to click the screen paradigm combined to make me feel like hurling it at the wall many times.
The BlackBerry Storm 2 is much better in many ways. It doesn't lag, it has fewer bugs, and typing doesn't feel as kludgly as before. You still have to click the screen, but even that has improved drastically.
So the question is, can this new improved touch screen BlackBerry survive in the corporate world? Can it handle the day-to-day work use and even enhance your existing BlackBerry experience? Finally, does it look professional enough to carry into the boardroom or courtroom?

Luis let me know that BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 Service Pack 1 has been released for Exchange and Domino. We mentioned that this was coming over a week ago and it has been delivered as promised.
You can find the downloads at this link on the BlackBerry.com website.
There are some interesting new features additions in this new version but here are the highlights:
- Open Document Format (ODF) Support – Support for .odp files and .ods files on BlackBerry devices. These are OpenOffice format files for wordprocessing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- VMware Certification
- BlackBerry Browser device dashboard – Mobile friendly
- Support for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008
- Support for Windows® Internet Explorer® version 8
- Support for importing Wi-Fi® profiles and VPN profiles from a .csv file

Research In Motion has made generally available BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 Service Pack 1. Most corporate environments running BES 5.0 have most likely already got Service Pack 1 installed already for their users. But just in case you were holding off, you can now head to the Research In Motion download site and grab your copy for IBM Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange. As always, Research In Motion has updated their knowledge base articles to reflect all the new changes and features as well.

It’s a sad day when someone says goodbye. Last week, I was informed by SimpleLeap Software that they were leaving the BlackBerry community. On November 29th was made official. We have reviewed all of their BlackBerry applications in the past; Cram, Appetite, TalkLater and Call Client. I have always been a huge fan of their work and this did come as a shock to me. I can honestly say that I will miss them and the applications they have brought us. Want to know the reason? What will be the fate of their BlackBerry applications? Read the press release after the jump for more information.

A little while back we covered the fact Epic applications had totally revamped and renamed their top selling game "Berry wars" to Druglord Wars. At that time they had made the promise that it would indeed, be released for older devices running 4.5 OS and finally Epic applications has made good on their word.
In addition to bringing Druglord Wars to 4.5 OS devices, they have also set up a whole new online scoreboard for users where you can post your highscores in a number of different ways. Be it daily, 30 days or 90 days and finally, the highest out of the unlimited play setting. You have a chance to get on the highscore board nop matter what level of play you start at.

Advanced Call Manager is one of the most feature full call managers and blockers for BlackBerry. I use the app on and off whenever I get annoying callers that I just want to go away. The app is usually super pricey at $25.50 but for today only they have cut the price by 50% to a reasonable $12.75. The app also has a free trial that lets you handle 30 calls so you can see what it is like.
Check it out at this link
From the description:
Are you busy, constantly in important meetings and discussions? Is your mobile always ringing at a bad moment?
All you need to be in control is the Advanced Call Manager! It will handle the incoming calls for you and personalize your approach to the callers – play an instant busy tone / drop the call, send a kind SMS, mute the ringer or pick up and hang up the phone.
ACM handles your incoming calls with a personalized approach to different callers – it accepts, rejects, sends a personalized SMS, mutes the ringer or instantly picks up and then hangs up. You can easily save different profiles and schedule them according to time or location.
With Advanced Call Manager you can organize your phone book into custom lists like Black list (people you don’t like to disturb you), White list (important people who are "allowed" to call you) or any other custom list (a very special group could be your family to which you may wish to send a personal SMS if they call during a business meeting).
ACM enables you to set different actions for the groups you have defined – you can accept, reject, send personalized SMS, mute the ringer or pick up and hang up. With SMS templates you can set special messages for each group very easily.
The Advanced Call Manager lets you tune your mobile into several modes:
- Accept all calls (inactive)
- Reject all calls
- Accept Phonebook only
- Reject from black list (you have to define the list in advance)
- Accept from white list (you have to define the list in advance)
- Reject all + custom action (e.g. send SMS to your wife or girlfriend if she calls)
Supported Reject Actions:
- Send busy tone / drop
- Reply by SMS
- Mute the ringer
- Pick up and hang up
