Overview of Caller ID Faker App for BlackBerry

There’s always a new app or program floating around that catches my eye, this was one of them. Out of curiosity, I thought I would find out more as to what it is and what it does. There’s some information on it online, and depending how you use it, could be a great tool.
The website promotes it as the best program for faking caller ID ever. Just remember, as with all programs there is a legal and illegal way to use an application. The app for the program is available for download to BlackBerry as well as other mobiles. I can see where this app could be fun, playing a joke on your friends, your daughter or son won’t answer their cell, or call or text or number you don’t know comes through to your phone…those are times you might want to call with a number other than your’s.
I downloaded the app to my BlackBerry Tour 9630. And you get the icon that states Caller ID Faker. You also agree to use the app in compliance with the laws. After this, you come to the screen where you place your call. You have the Number To Call for you to fill in; the Faked Caller ID which is the number you want them to see; the Voice Changer of which you have male, female, and off. You have the Call Recording which is on, off, or on w/announcement, and Straight to Voicemail. Please remember that recording a conversation without the other party being aware is illegal. And then you place your call. The hitch? Oh, you have a ten second announcement to listen to first and then you have the remainder of two minutes to use the call. You can pay to upgrade to a “Premium” account if you’d like more but for the purpose I am using it for, two minutes is more than enough.
So with two participants in the room, I decide to call one of their phones with the other’s number as the faked caller id, and use a male voice. The ten second announcement went by quickly and then the victim’s phone rang with the other’s number. And sure enough, my voice was disguised as that of a man. The participants were laughing so hard they made me laugh, which was still in a man’s voice so it was pretty hilarious. No static, the caller id and the voice were perfectly hid.
Con: The only con I could find was that it’s only two minutes and there’s a ten second advertisement that takes part of your two minutes, but advertising helps make it free too. There’s a premium account available so that’s not bad. Of course premium plans are unlimited for a month at $30, $375 minutes for $50, 165 minutes for $25, and 60 minutes for $10.
Pro’s: That the phone number is hid, the voice can be hid, and they sound like real voices, not automated or computerized. It’s really interesting and entertaining. And used in the right way can be great for a few laughs. Especially if your teen ignores your calls, you can call them with a friend’s number.
Has anyone else tried this app or program? In a positive or negative light? Let us know what you think of it.
