Verizon Pushing Out VCAST Song ID And VZW Tones to BlackBerry Storm Users

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Adam Zeis on 30-06-2009

V CAST Song ID

It looks as if Verizon has pushed out both VCAST Song ID and VZW Tones for BlackBerry Storm users. V CAST Song ID works in much the same manner as Shazam, letting you identify songs playing on a stereo, jukebox etc. directly from your handset and instanly providing you with a one-click purchase link. VZW Tones easily lets you locate and download the latest "real music" ringtones directly to your device. If you haven't seen them yet, you just need to reboot or send your service books and they should pop up.  Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Verizon Offering BlackBerry Tour Without Camera for Preorder

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Ronen Halevy on 30-06-2009

cameraless-blackberrytour Wow this has been a long time coming. RIM has not released a camera-less BlackBerry since the 8830 (unless you count the 8350 camera-less version). Many people are not allowed to have ANY cameras at work so this is a real boon for government employees/consultants, lawyers, and more. I know many companies that are still issuing 8700’s and 8830’s because of the camera issue.

You can find the preorder for the BlackBerry Tour without the camera at this link!

Thanks to Terry and Jim for sending this one in

BlackBerry Development Fundamentals Book Available for Preorder – Release Oct 16th

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Ronen Halevy on 30-06-2009

blackberry-development-fundamentals Over the years I have been trying to convert developers to the BlackBerry platform. One of the main issues was the lack of a book or guide on how to develop for the BlackBerry OS. I know that most of the J2ME books also work for the BlackBerry OS but they are not specific and do not really go into the features & issues exclusive to the BlackBerry. For example, how to setup a stable connection to the internet.

John M. Wargo is planning to change all of that on October 16th, 2009. He is currently a project manager and senior mobile application specialist for BoxTone. From 2006-2008 he worked for RIM and was responsible for training AT&T customers on application development in the US. From that I can tell that he definitely has the qualifications.

I know the book is not released yet but you can read more about it at this link. You can also preorder the book on Amazon to be delivered when it comes out. I will be picking up a copy for myself and a friend!

You can read about the chapters in the book at the links below:

BlackBerry Tour to Be Offered in Two Versions – With Camera and WITHOUT Camera

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Kevin Michaluk on 30-06-2009

BlackBerry Tour Without Camera

While the crack team was sleeping, Brian & Benjamin sent us in tips that Verizon's website is now showing the BlackBerry Tour available for pre-order in two versions - both with camera and WITHOUT CAMERA. You can click on the image above to jump over to Verizon's site and spin the Tour around to see it's camera-less behind. Try zip code 07828 if you're in need. Very cool for RIM to cater to those individuals who need a device sans camera for work. It's a bit of a shame though as the Tour's camera does take some seriously awesome photos (like alarmingly good).

YouMail Visual Voicemail Plus Updated to Fix “Greetings” Bug

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Ronen Halevy on 30-06-2009

youmailplusYouMail let me know that they have just released a new update to their Visual Voicemail Plus app. They discovered an issue where under certain circumstances, using the “greetings” feature can “hang” the app, so that it can no longer retrieve voicemails.

NOTE: They have update the app to a new version in the App World that fixes this issue and are recommending that you uninstall the previous version before reinstalling this version!

In case you were wondering what this “Greetings” feature does that hangs the app. This feature lets you change your default greeting with a few clicks so that you can change your voicemail message to say you are in a meeting or at the bar. You can check some of the professionally recorded greetings out at this link.

YouMail is graciously apologizing for the screw up and plans on testing updates thoroughly before unleashing them on the public in the future. Now if only they would wake up and smell the coffee and start offering an OTA link outside of the App World…

Verizon BlackBerry Tour Site Gets Updated: July 12th Release Official; Tour Pre-Ordering Available

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Kevin Michaluk on 30-06-2009

Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 Site Updated...

Some late night activity just sprung up in the CrackBerry forums on word that Verizon's BlackBerry Tour site has been updated, which confirms the previously rumored July 12th in-store availability date and also allows for pre-ordering of the device. At the time of this post the new site seems to still be propagating through (the site isn't showing up properly for everyone just yet and the preordering isn't quite working - it should be good to go soon), but you will want to jump over and take a look (click here if the main link below isn't working for you).

The updated site also features a short Bloggers on the Tour video which features a couple of CrackBerry.com quotes about the BlackBerry Tour..... SWEET! The BlackBerry Tour definitely is the smartphone sooo many CDMA users have been waiting for. The release of the BlackBerry Tour is so close now. I guess it's about time we get ready for a CrackBerry contest huh? Stay tuned!!! If you're excited for the Tour, say CrackBerry!

BlackBerry Tour Makes its way Through FCC

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Ronen Halevy on 30-06-2009

fcc_testdummy Looks like the BlackBerry Tour is well on its way to being released next month. If you are really into reading SAR and hearing aid compliance documentation you can check out Masud Attayi’s, RIM’s regulatory compliance team lead, wonderful documentation to the FCC at the link below:

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/…

I went through the documentation myself and did not notice anything extremely interesting. Let me know if you spot anything.

Thanks Tommy for sending this one in!
