Sorry for the delay on this one guys but I was incommunicado for the last 48 hours. One of trusted tipsters let me know that Verizon is scheduled to released OS 4.7.0.148 for the Storm in the next few hours. Specifically it will be starting Sunday May 31st at 3PM EST:
Customers will be able to get the update via the Web at www.blackberry.com/update beginning Sunday, May 31 from 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Verizon Wireless will also be rolling this update out to customers through an over-the-air download beginning Sunday night (10 p.m. Eastern Time). To get the download over the air, go to Options> Advanced Options > Wireless Updates.
Many of you have already been sporting 4.7.0.148 for quite awhile but its good to see that Verizon will finally be bringing the Storm OS into 2009… Let us know when you spot the update!

RIM has really set the bar low when it comes to BIS releases. There have been a few exceptions like 2 way sync of email but overall they just seem like a marginal upgrade that took RIM 3 months to release. Josep spotted this one knowledgebase article on RIM’s website detailing the new features in BIS 2.7. I can’t say I really care for any of them… I cannot believe that these features are high on the requested feature list for BIS.
What is the BlackBerry Internet Service?
BlackBerry Internet Service 2.7 includes improvements to the BlackBerry smartphone user experience, including improved usability and email account integration.
Help Screen
The improved Help screen is designed to allow the following:
- Send service books
- Open the BlackBerry HELP web site on the BlackBerry smartphone
- Access BlackBerry® Answers
- Contact information for wireless service providers
Close Option
- The close option allows subscribers to close the Email Settings application easily.
Language Options
- The BlackBerry Internet Service UI is now available in Thai and Indonesian.
