Premium HedoneDesign Se7en Theme for the 8100, 8300, 8800 & 9000

As some of you may very well know, Windows 7 Beta has been available for a while now and with that availability comes adoration of the new Windows 7 eye candy... it looks good! For the techies and Windows-lovers in the crowd, thanks to Hedone Design you can now replicate the Windows 7 look on your BlackBerry. Hedone let us know about his new Windows 7 Replica theme, Se7en, that even includes a lot of extra not so obvious goodies in it.

Se7en of course, has a nice clean feel to it, with crisp icons that really stand out. The overall flow of the theme is great, right down to the pop up windows that have that awesome Windows 7 look to theme. But venture around the theme a bit more and you realize it's full of hidden tricks. The lower right hand corner, Battery, Signal and Profiles icons all function as buttons allowing acess to such things as Manage Connections, Options and of course Profiles. A nice innovation to make buttons out of what otherwise would be just basic information! With the option of today screen integration, hidden features and even an expansion pack being made available, this theme is a must have to add to your collection. Never mind using it, you'll have even have fun with this one just exploring it's options. Se7en is available for 8100, 8300, 8800 & 9000 (there are different versions so check out the links here and here for full details)

BuzzMe-Have Your BlackBerry Vibrate And Ring At The Same Time!

Here's another case of something that really should be a core function of the native BlackBerry OS but is not. Buzz Me was recently announced in the CrackBerry forums  and its main function when installed is to make your device vibrate and ring at the same time. Simple logic and something that a lot of BlackBerry users have the urge to do, making it a great little app to add to your downloads. Buzz Me currently supports BlackBerry's sporting 4.5+ OS and a Storm (4.7 OS) version is also available (great example of the developer community at work). For those wondering on the cost of this application... it's FREE! This application is indeed free too download and that's a price no one can refuse. Thanks delta_foxtrot2!

Introducing Port 3101, a new community for the BES Admin by the BES Admin

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Greg Myers on 31-01-2009

port3101_final1

A bunch of bitchin’, badass,  BlackBerry administrators (I tried to get in as many B’s as I could… :-) ) have put their collective genius minds together to come up with a solution to help other admins and to share ideas throughout their community.

The forums, in my opinion, definitely serve the majority of the community, but these guys and girls have basically taken the BES part of a forum and focused their work on that. From their press room:

“After spending many years with an active role in the various online BlackBerry communities and forums, we have noticed that most have become diluted with tackling the general subject of ‘BlackBerry’ with not enough emphasis on the Enterprise customers and administrators.

In lieu of this lack of focus, several well-known veterans within the collective online BlackBerry community have decided to create a new website aimed solely at the BlackBerry Enterprise solution, as well as those like us who hunger for a more technical discussion and a place where we can bounce ideas or simply request help. This new community focuses on the gearheads that make the solution work - the BlackBerry administrators and engineers, the BlackBerry solution architects, and the BlackBerry technical consultants - all in one place with a kickass name that only a geek could love!

After a couple months of being online in a pre-launch capacity, we are very pleased and excited to announce the public launch of Port 3101, where familiar faces and knowledgeable minds will always be guaranteed. We look forward to making this website THE one-stop destination for your BlackBerry server needs.”

It is up and running as of today, so to visit their site, just go to www.port3101.org to check it out for yourselves.

Premium Vista Bold Theme for the Blackberry 9000

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Vicky on 30-01-2009

Looking for another Vista based theme for your Bold? Well theme designer Tim just sent this one in. Vista Bold is practically a replica of the PC version with it’s ‘Start’ menu at the bottom right, conveniently giving you access to your most used applications. I didn’t actually test this theme myself but I know there are a lot of Vista fans out there so wanted to bring it to your attention. The other neat thing about this theme is the cost…only $3.00. Not bad for a premium theme. If you’re interested, head on over to the Blue Room Solution store to purchase.

* Updated: Follow Papped's Tetris for the Bold forum thread to stay on top of the latest updates for this app! *

Need a fun, addicting and FREE game to play on your BlackBerry Bold this weekend? Then you'll want to check out BBTetris! BlackBerry Addict and CrackBerry member Papped optimized the game for the Bold but it may work on other trackball models as well (install at own risk). You can check these comments over at BerryReview to see how users on other devices have faired.

I installed it on my Bold just now and it's totally addicting! Game play is easy - click the trackball to rotate pieces and scroll to move it around. Just don't judge my Tetris skills by the image above... I wasn't paying attention to the game while grabbing the capture. Trust me. I've got mad Tetris skillz :)

If you give it a go, be sure to drop your comments to this post. You can download the game over the air by visiting the link below on your Bold's browser:

Jawbone II Custom Molded Earpieces From AverySound

Filed Under (Blackberry News) by Ronen Halevy on 30-01-2009

Not sure how many of you will be interested in this but I thought it was worth a mention. Two weeks ago I reviewed the Aliph Jawbone II Bluetooth headset and docked its rating for having a lousy ear hoop connecting it to your ear. This made it fall off easily and lose connection with your jawbone causing it to cancel out your voice as background noise. This was a shame since the original Jawbone had a great ear hoop and is still my headset of choice.

JawBoneIIweb womanwithjawboneIIweb

Ivan let me know in the comments that he found a great but pricey solution for fixing this issue. AverySound sells custom molded earpieces for the Jawbone and Jawbone II that completely eliminate the need for the Jawbones ear hoop. The earpiece holds your headset to your ear by using a custom mold of your inner ear. This makes a perfect seal of your ear allowing you to lower the volume since it blocks out background noises.

jawboneIIwithblueweb jawboneIIwithnocolorweb

The earpiece is pricey at $69 per earpiece especially on top of the cost of a Jawbone but it makes sense once you understand the work they put into it. Once they receive your order you will be sent an impression kit that lets you make an impression of your ear. You then mail them back the impression using their prepaid mailing box and they will send you back a custom made earpiece that they guarantee. A friend of mine had something similar done for his headphones a bit back and he cannot stop raving about it.

ColorSample2web You can order the custom earpieces in multiple colors as you can see to the right. I am not sure about the glitter and I would recommend getting a regular black or blue color.

You can order the Jawbone II earpiece at this link or a earpiece for the original Jawbone at this link. I am going to try and pick one up and do a review. Let me know if you get one! I can definitely see this being useful for people who are constantly on their Bluetooth headset.
